( Cells; Tissues; Organ System; Whole Organisms)

Objectives:-  a. Describe the characteristics of living organisms

                         b. Compare the structures of an unspecialized plant and animal cell and selected microbes

                         c. State the functions of cell structures

                         d. Identify selected cells which make up the human body

                         e. Explain the importance of cell specialization in humans

                         f. Distinguish between osmosis and diffusion and active transport in living systems

                        g. Explain the process of photosynthesis

                        h. Investigate the effect of light and chlorophyll on the production of starch

                        i. Explain the ways in which other living organisms depend on plants directly or indirectly

                           for food

                        j. Explain the principles of a food chain

                        k. Construct a food chain from a selected habitat

                         I. Identify the trophic level of organisms in the food chain

                       m. Describe the recycling of carbon and nitrogen in nature

Activities:-  1.  View charts and diagrams of plants and animal cells, microbes, nitrogen and carbon

                           cycles.

                     2. Construction of models of animal and plant cells; nitrogen and carbon cycles.

                      3. Experiments to be conducted to better understand the process of diffusion, osmosis and

                          photosynthesis.

                      4. Questions to be given pertaining to objectives covered.
